1. Adam (Adam)

Adam is the first prophet of Islam and the husband of Hawa (Eve). Satan had lured Adam and Eve into disobeying God by tasting from the forbidden tree.

Surah Al A'Raf (Surah 7 Verse 20):
20. Then Satan whispered to them that he might manifest unto them that which was hidden from them of their shame, and he said: Your Lord forbade you from this tree only lest ye should become angels or become of the immortals.

2. Idris (Enoch)
Idris (A.S) is known for learning many skills or inventing things which humans now use such as writing, mathematics, astronomy and others. He lived during a period of drought inflicted by God to punish the people of the world who had forgotten God. Idris prayed for an end to the suffering, and so the world received rain, putting an end to the drought.

3. Nuh (Noah)
The prophet Nuh (A.S) warned his people of a painful doom that was nearing because they did not obey Allah. Allah planned a massive flood of destruction and commanded Nuh to build a ship and upon its completion, the ship was loaded with animals and Nuh's household. The people who denied the message of Nuh drowned. Among them was the son of Nuh.

Surah Al A'Raf (Surah 7, Verse 64):
64. But they denied him, so We saved him and those with him in the ship, and We drowned those who denied Our tokens. Lo! they were blind folk.

4. Hud (Eber)
Hud was sent as a warning to the people of 'Ad. But despite Hud's warnings, the people still worshipped their idols. Allah sent a drought to punish them. But still the people did not repent, so God brought upon them a large storm from which only Hud and a few believers were saved.

5. Salih (Shelah)
Salih was known for his wisdom, purity and goodness and had been greatly respected by his people. He was sent by Allah for the people of Thamud who were idol-worshippers and disobeyed Allah's orders. For fear that Salih's followers would increase, the people of Thamud challenged Salih to prove that he was a messenger of Allah by performing a miracle: make a unique she-camel appear from the mountains. Allah then granted a she-camel, as in the Qur'an:

Surah Hud (Surah 11, Verse 64):
64. O my people! This is the camel of Allah, a token unto you, so suffer her to feed in Allah's earth, and touch her not with harm lest a near torment seize you.

The people of Thamud disobeyed God's order and killed the she-camel. God punished them and thunderbolts followed by massive earthquakes which destroyed them and their land.

6. Ibrahim (Abraham)
Ibrahim was born in a house of idol-worshippers and his father was a well-known idol sculptor. The idol-worshippers ignored Ibrahim's call to obey Allah and so Ibrahim destroyed the idols in the temple, while the worshippers were away. The people then decided to punish Ibrahim and threw him inside a deep pit of fire, but on God's will, the fire did not Ibrahim.

Surah Al-Anbiya (Surah 21, Verse 69 - 70)
69. We said: O fire, be coolness and peace for Abraham.
70. And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers.

Allah tested Ibrahim by commanding him in a dream to sacrifice his son, Ismail. While he was about to slaughter his son, Allah rewarded him with a sheep to be sacrificed instead, thus commemorating the day that is celebrated by Muslims till today, Eidul Adha.

Ibrahim wished for a place where people could concentrate specially to worship Allah. God Almighty then ordered for the Ka'abah to be built and Ibrahim and Ismail built the Ka'abah, which is the direction where all Muslims face when praying and also where people perform Hajj (Pilgrimage).

7. Lut (Lot)
Lut was the nephew of Ibrahim. He was commanded by God to go to the land of Sodom and Gomorrah (where homosexuality was practised) to preach to his people on monotheism and to stop them from their lustful and violent acts. Lut's messages were ignored by the them. Hence God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah with showers of brimstones and his wife also was left behind to be destroyed.

In Surah Al-A'raf Verses 80 - 84 (7:80-84):
80. We also (sent) Lut: he said to his people: "Do ye commit lewdness such as no people in creation (ever) committed before you?
81. "For ye practise your lusts on men in preference to women: ye are indeed a people transgressing beyond bounds."
82. And his people gave no answer but this: they said "Drive them out of your city: these are indeed men who want to be clean and pure!"
83. But We saved him and his family except his wife: she was of those who lagged behind.
84. And We rained down on them a shower (of brimstone): then see what was the end of those who indulged in sin and crime!

8. Ismail (Ishmael)

God delivered this child to Abraham, and later tested Abraham's faith by asking him to sacrifice his only son at the time. However, just as Abraham was to kill his only son, God halted him, praised him for his loyalty, and commanded him to sacrifice a sheep instead. This leads to the Muslim practice of sacrificing domesticated animals such as sheep, goats, cows or camels on the celebration to mark this event known as Eid ul-Adha.
